Health Assistant (Re-announcement)

World Vision Cambodia (WVC) is a Christian relief and development organization committed to working with poor communities, focused on children, to transform lives and Cambodian society through sustainable development. We are seeking for qualified Cambodian nationals to fill a position of Health Assistant for Baribour District Kampong Chhnang Operations, which based in Baribour district, Kampong Chhnang Province.

PURPOSE:
The Health Assistant is responsible for providing implementation support to the WV Area Development Program (ADP) for successful implementation of maternal and newborn health and anemia prevention interventions, S/he will work in close coordination with other staff of ADPs for implementation, ongoing monitoring and reviews, and meeting all reporting requirements for the project.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be fully familiar with the design of project and Anemia prevention project, performance-monitoring targets, provisions of the
  • Budget and financial guidelines and the agreements made within the Memorandum Of Understanding with donors and Health and Nutrition Program.
  • Assist the ADP Project Coordinator for Nutrition to develop appropriate context-specific implementation plans that are aligned to the objectives of the project
  • Visit project villages regularly and mobilize members of the community to support the project interventions, including formation of community groups and working with existing groups
  • In coordination with the ADP Health coordinator, implement the village level and Health Center level project activities including training activities, communication campaigns, education sessions and meetings with community members
  • Conduct periodic orientations and capacity-building sessions for Health Center staff, Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) and other volunteers on most recent updates maternal and newborn health, and prevention of childhood anemia
  • Conduct orientation meetings with village chiefs, commune council members and other informal leaders to ensure their participation and support to the planned project activities
  • Assist ADP Health Coordinator to regularly oversee the progress of implementation of planned activities in the ADP and regularly track expenditures as per budget
  • Coordinate with Health and Nutrition Program for facilitating the community mobilization and data collection for the study on causes of anemia among children
  • Be responsible for conduct periodic field visits to all project villages to assess the quality of project implementation and propose necessary quality improvement measures.
  • Maintain an updated database of all project related documents, including planning and budgeting templates, detailed budget worksheets, project area profiles, qualitative reports, progress reports etc …
  • Regularly compile the project monitoring data (programmatic and financial) and make information available to ADP Health coordinator for analysis and reporting
  • Make available the necessary data and information to the ADP health coordinator for preparing all financial and programmatic progress reports as agreed with the donors
  • Regularly interact with the Operational District and Health center level officials of the Ministry of health to understand the priorities and coordinate the project activities in line with the overall plan of action
  • Coordinate with all other NGOs and agencies working in the ADP area on maternal and newborn health and anemia prevention and make sure that the project activities are complementing the efforts of other agencies without any duplication
  • Participate in all important coordination meetings related to MCH at Operational District levels.
  • Regular ongoing coordination with other ADP staff, and Sectoral Program staff to facilitate quick implementation of the priority activities
  • Use the field visits and review meetings VHVs and other community volunteers as opportunities for building their capacities for long-term implementation of MCH and nutrition interventions
  • Along with the PC and Operations PC, provide leadership to the Health team in ADPs by building cooperation, synergy, team spirit and creating supportive and learning environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appropriate educational qualification in Health or Nutrition (MD, MPH, Medical Assistant or Midwife).
  • At least two years of experience in public health project/programs, preferably in NGO sector.
  • Familiarity with the national health programs, policies and implementation guidelines of the Ministry of Health, especially related to MCH and National Nutrition Program.
  • Cambodian National with values and ethos compatible with the mission, vision and core values and strategic directions of World Vision Cambodia.
  • Fluency in Khmer, some formal training in English an advantage and ability to use computer Word, Excel.
  • Energetic and physically fit to be able to undertake frequent field visits to remote rural areas.
  • Own motorbike and stay overnight at district.
