Workshop on "Alleviating Childhood Malnutrition in Developing Countries through Improved Utilisation and Processing of Traditional Foods"

Abstract: 

Fisheries Post-Harvest Technologies, Fisheries Administration (FiA), Cambodia is organizing the Inception Workshop on "Alleviating Childhood Malnutrition in Developing Countries through Improved Utilisation and Processing of Traditional Foods" that will be held on Thursday 12th February 2009

at IFReDI's conference room Fisheries Administration, Phnom Penh.

WINFOOD is a collaborative research project coordinated by the Department of Human Nutrition, University of Copenhagen, Denmark in collaboration with the Institute of Fisheries Post-Harvest Technologies of Fisheries Administration, Cambodia, and the Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases, University of Nairobi, Kenya. WINFOOD is funded by Danida, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark for the period 2009-2011. The overall objective of the WINFOOD project is to prevent and alleviate child malnutrition in developing countries through developing nutritionally improved foods for infants and young children, based on improved utilisation of traditional foods. Improving child nutrition is crucial to reach the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly MDG 1 (halving poverty and hunger) and MGD 4 (reducing child mortality)
The WINFOOD project is organizing an inception workshop on "Alleviating Childhood Malnutrition in Developing Countries through Improved Utilisation and Processing of Traditional Foods" which will take place on Thursday, 12th February 2009 at IFReDI’s conference room of the Fisheries Administration, Phnom Penh.

 

This workshop has two main objectives:

  • To present the WINFOOD project, and discuss and get recommendations from the relevant stakeholders in order to develop an action oriented research agenda to develop a strategy useful for implementation in Cambodia
  • To strengthen collaboration and cooperation with partners/stakeholders in order to obtain fruitful interaction on the research and implementation of the results of the WINFOOD project
