Objectives of The Training of Trainer

The System of Rice Intensification was originally developed in Madagascar. Ithas been shown to be a set of sustainable rice-farming technologies that can help small farmers to significantly increase their rice yields without depending on high yielding variety, chemical fertilizers and pesticides. It is a low-input technology, which can be flexibly applied based on the prevailing enabling factors. The Ecological System of Rice Intensification (SRI) has been increasingly implemented by farmers in Cambodia since 2000 with support from different stakeholders such as CEDAC, PRASAC, OXFAM, GTZ/RDP, local NGOs and Provincial Department of Agriculture (PDA). In 2006, approximately 60,000 farmers have adapted SRI elements in the cultivated area of 16,386 ha of 24 municipality and provinces. The implementing institutions are 24 PDAs and 47 NGOs. The Training of Trainer is organized by DAALI/MAFF and cooperated with Provincial Department of Agriculture,BattamBang province and CEDAC funded by gtz. The Training of Trainer will be held on on May, 23-24th 2007 in Provincial Department of Agriculture, kampong Speu province.

The objectives of the Training of Trainer are:

    1. Learnt about impact of chemical agriculture
    2. Known about the reality of conventional rice cultivation
    3. Learnt the basic knowledge for rice
    4. Known about the principles and practice of SRI Learnt the creative facilitating skill and participatory approach

Participation

A round 40 participants are coming from Kompong Speu, Kampot, Takeo, Koh kong, Sihanouk Vill, Kandal, Krong Keb province and NGO
